Detach from your world before falling asleep.
Your mind, which has habituated itself to thinking during the day will start witnessing. Instead of taking action, you’ll become an observer.
Sleep is an important part of our lives. While the modern science explores how depriving yourself of proper daily sleep, or irregular sleeping pattern, creates problems within our body, so much more has been explored in the ancient science of Sanatan. According to Sanatan dharma, it is your duty to take care of your mind and body, just like any other worldly duties, and simply by regularizing your sleep, you can take control of your life.
The first instruction is to detach yourself from the world before going to bed. For example, in our day and time, it is quite common for people to hold on to their phones in the bed, till the last second, until their brain can no longer stay awake. This is what we call brain numbing.
If you notice and contemplate, you’ll realize sometimes how groggy and restless you might be feeling in the morning, even though you’ve slept for long hours. Have you experienced lack of energy to move into the new day? It’s not because you body didn’t try to give you a good rest during your sleeping hours, but because you were not detached from the world until the last second before you fell asleep.
Here’s a simple way to fix this. Instead of continuously thinking about your day to day thoughts, move your attention to your body. While lying in bed, skip using the phone, to start with. Become attentive to your body, and move your attention from the head to toe, witnessing and observing one organ at a time. Just witness. Don’t move. No need to take an action about it. Just be attentive. Be grateful to the body that you’ve used to experience the world around you during the day.
By detaching your worldly thoughts, you’ll be looking towards your own self, and giving yourself permission to sleep in peace. Your mind, which has habituated itself to thinking during the day will start witnessing. Instead of taking action, you’ll become an observer. And every night, as you practice this, before your sleep, you’ll go deeper within.
Before you wake up in the morning, for the same process. Just witness your body. You will see your sleep transforming quickly, giving you the energy and motivation to carry on with your day.
Namaste. Aum Namah Shivay.

It is exactly what I do before I sleep. Lovely post.
